As Parliament gears up for Tuesday’s Vice Presidential election, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor admitted that while the Opposition will cast its votes with full commitment, the NDA holds a numerical advantage.
“See, we will cast our votes. These elections are important. You know how the count is going on, what can I say?” Tharoor told ANI on Monday, hinting at the arithmetic favoring the ruling alliance.
Union Minister SP Singh Baghel expressed confidence in NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan’s victory, saying, “NDA has more count, and Radhakrishnan will become the Vice President. We will congratulate him and he will run the House proceedings smoothly.”
The NDA has rallied behind Radhakrishnan, while the Opposition has fielded former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy as its candidate. Both blocs conducted mock polls to minimize invalid votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also endorsed Radhakrishnan, calling him “an excellent Vice President, who will enrich the office with his wisdom and insights.”
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Anil Desai said the INDIA bloc was united, with preparations ensuring MPs avoid mistakes during voting. However, the BJD and BRS have announced they will abstain from the contest.
